SIM Binding at 1Kosmos (Subscriber Identity Module – Binding)
1Kosmos BlockID SIM binding is achieved during account registration in the 1Kosmos BlockID app. The user will click on an email invite from the institution, which will open the BlockID app.
The user is then challenged to verify their phone number. The BlockID platform uses a combination of SIM detection and SMS verification to validate a user’s mobile number against the number registered with their service provider. Upon successful validation, the customer is allowed to add a new account with the registered device as an authenticator all through the BlockID app.
SIM binding helps reduce fraud, especially in the Internet retail banking sector, where vulnerable customers can be duped into allowing unauthorized entities to register the app and take over the account.
SIM Binding Administration
The 1Kosmos customer (bank, payment provider, enterprise, etc.) generates an email in BlockID console that contains a link to send to end users. When the recipient (consumer, employee, etc.) clicks on the link, it opens the BlockID app, which initiates a process to detect the presence of a single or dual SIM. The user is then prompted to choose the SIM that is registered with their service provider or employer. BlockID then validates the SIM and phone number by matching the phone number on record with the service provider or employer. If validated, then the account, user, and device are linked.
Prerequisites
End-users:
Android Device or Apple iPhone (Android OS: 7.1 and later / iOS: 13.0 or later)
Latest BlockID Mobile App.
Customers:
SMS Service Number - SMS Service Provider needs to provide a service number where SMS will be sent to obtain the user’s phone number along with the user’s consent
SMS Service Provider – To send text messages
User Validation Webhook - The customer needs to provide a validation Webhook API to verify the phone number
UserID (as per customer requirement) – To validate user via a broker in the AD.

Installation
Install the BlockID App from iOS AppStore or Android Play Store.
Registration
The user will tap on an email invite from the institution/organization, which will open the BlockID app.
The user is then challenged to verify their phone number. The BlockID platform uses a combination of SIM detection and SMS verification to validate a user’s mobile number against the number registered with their service provider. Upon successful validation, the customer is allowed to add a new account with the registered device as an authenticator all through the BlockID app.
Once the SIM is validated, the user account is added in the BlockID mobile App.
Configure BlockID App with SIM Binding
Once you have installed the BlockID App.
You should now tap on an email invite from the organization which they have sent you for setting up your user account in the BlockID App. Tap on the URL in the e-mail invite and it will redirect you to the BlockID App
It will ask you to set up the PIN and Biometrics.
Once the PIN is set, it will ask you to verify their phone number.
It will redirect you to SMS composer to send the encrypted text to verify your phone number with the service provider.
Once the message is sent and validated by the service provider the phone number will be verified and the account will be added in the BlockID App.
